Lattice vs Canva

Canva is a page-based design tool with a generous free tier, moodboard templates, and a paid Canva Pro plan. Many freelancers already build client moodboards in it from a template. Lattice is a free-form canvas: references keep their own size, links unfurl into cards, AI groups and tags the board, and presentation walks through the canvas rather than a slide deck. Lattice is free during public beta.

The short version

Canva wins on reach and polish of the page. Its free tier is generous, its public view links are free, and it exports print-quality PDF. It also has version history, native mobile apps, and image generation. If your deliverable is a fixed page, a PDF, or a slide deck, Canva does that well. The trade-off is that a Canva moodboard is a collage on a page. Every reference gets cropped or resized to fit, a link is text rather than a card, and there is nothing that groups or tags a pile of references for you. Canva's whiteboard is a separate canvas that its moodboard templates do not use. Lattice starts from the canvas: images stay at their own size, links unfurl, AI organizes, and you present by moving through frames. It cannot remove its branding yet, and it has no version history or native apps.

Questions

Is Lattice cheaper than Canva?
Both have a free tier. Canva Pro is a paid annual plan. Lattice is free during public beta; a $12 per month Studio tier is announced and waitlisted.
Can Canva organize a moodboard with AI?
Canva's AI generates images and text. It does not tag, group, or connect the references already on a board. Lattice does.
Can I remove Lattice branding from a client board?
Not today. Shared Lattice boards carry a small Lattice mark for now.
Does Canva have a free-form canvas?
Canva has a whiteboard, but its moodboard templates use a fixed page layout. Lattice keeps everything on one free-form canvas.
Can I move a Canva moodboard to Lattice?
There is no importer. Download the images from Canva and drop them onto a Lattice board; links can be pasted and unfurl automatically.
